Dear Mayor de Blasio, 

I am writing this letter to discuss policies you might want to implement to help individuals prosper financially. I look at factors that may contribute to financial success and I am writing you in hopes you will take this information into consideration. 

The first factor to consider is child poverty. A child growing up in poverty is far more likely to end up in poverty. They perform worse in school. They are more likely to be incarcerated and to have children early on in life. These issues can be solved by helping those in poverty. Ensuring that kids have enough food and aren’t stressed about their family’s financial situation can go a long way.

Another issue that can be addressed is an individual’s intelligence. Our current school system puts everyone on the same level but students vary in intelligence. To put everyone in the same classrooms can make some kids have trouble keeping up while slowing other kids down. Stress is also an issue with schools. It can worsen a student mental health which inhibits them from performing their highest potential. This can be resolved by installing programs to help students with stress. Also taking into consideration what students have going on in their lives and accommodating that can help kids flourish in schools. Overall the school system is outdated and must be addressed.

Child poverty: ·         Those growing in child poverty are much more likely to perform worse in education ·         Child poverty increases the chances of teen pregnancy and having children before marriage ·         Growing up in poverty increases the chances of being incarcerated Intelligence: ·         Those with higher IQ tend to perform better in school ·         A study done following the lives of high IQ children, found they performed much better on average than the average American ·         Students who perform better tend to be more stressed and more depressed Personality Traits: ·         Psychologists say there are five main personality traits: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism   ·         Conscientiousness which measures the individual’s dutifulness and responsibility is most correlated with success ·         Optimism is also important but too much may make people careless. Discussion: ·         Discuss with your partners which factor you think is the most important Explain your reasoning to the whole class
